Restoration/Land Reclamation
Land reclamation and restoration is designed to meet the increasing demands to manage and restore greenfield and brownfield sites to the
amenity, natural habitat or agricultural use engendered by UK Government and EU directives.
Blockade Services Ltd work alongside the agricultural community and the Environment Agency from the outset of all land restoration projects (under the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989), to ensure that the completed project has the most significant benefit to the environment.
Lake and pond dredging
In all ponds and lakes there will enevitably be a build-up of silt. Silt builds up naturally in any watercourse, which can lead to
practical problems for users and wildlife. Nutrients in silt causes weeds to grow and starve the water of oxygen which in turn can also be
a health hazard, leading to blue green algae and other contaminants. Good management of water courses will at some point necessitate
periodic dredging and maintenance to ensure that they continue to thrive.
Land restoration and Silt Disposal is a key part of the service we offer to landowners. However, the silt extracted need not be considered an environmental nuisance requiring removal to landfill. On the contrary, quality silt can be of significant environmental benefit to agricultural land and is considerably cheaper than transporting it to landfill sites.
Where pond/lake dredging is necessary, we will consult with the Environment Agency and local farmers looking to improve fallow land for agricultural purposes. Through this process of consultation, we can advise farmers regarding any legislative factors that may impact upon their farming operation.
