The construction industry, by its very nature is a dangerous one with the risks to those that work within it being high. However, risk can be reduced by setting the correct standards and maintaining them at all times.
The provisional figure for the number of workers fatally injured in 2009/10 is 152, and corresponds to a rate of fatal injury of 0.5 per 100,000 workers (Source - HSE). These figures (although a decrease on the previous year) are unacceptable and in most cases could have been avoided.

Health & Safety
Blockade Services Ltd maintains strict Health & Safety standards at all times, whether on site or within the confines of its operating depot, workshops or at its quarry/recycling plant. All of our employees are issued with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and undergo regular training, whether they are a driver, plant operator or duty manager.

Environment
Blockade Services Ltd have always been an environmentally conscious company and place a significant importance on our environment. Due to the nature of our business we collect and dispose of rubble and other waste concrete in the most environmentally friendly and cost effective manner. Recycling is at the heart of our business and we recycle over 65% of the material we remove from Private & Commercial premises.

Before we dispatch any equipment to collect material from a site, we work with the client to establish the nature of the material and the most appropriate means of disposal. Different materials are dealt with in different ways to minimise their impact on the Environment. Our expertise ensures such material are disposed of in the best the Environment.

Blockade Services is a BS EN ISO 9001 registered firm which means our Quality Management Systems are assessed and approved by the International Organisation for Standardisation. We are also registered and regulated by the Environment Agency under the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989.
